The 177 Cuban Doctors expected to be in Ghana |
From an analysis by the StarrFMonline.com the Government of Ghana will need to cough out the astounding amount or more to bring the expatriate physicians.
The current exchange rate of a dollar is equivalent to four cedis, thirteen pesewas (GhC 4.13). The KLM flight ticket cost for each Cuban doctor to fly Ghana is $3635. Therefore the total amount of dollars to transport 177 Cuban doctors is $525690 which is equivalent to GHC 2,171,009.7.
Again, on the Iberia airline where a ticket cost as high as $3653, it will cost the government $643395 which is equivalent to GHC 2,657,221.35 for the transportation of the 177 Cuban doctors.
The cost is experted to jump depending on the increasing nature of the dollars and also on when the Cuban doctors starts their journey to Ghana.
For the mean time, Tony Goodman, the spokesperson of the health ministry told the StarFMonline that he is not in the position to tell when the Cuban doctors starts their journey to Ghana.
The invitation extended to the Cuban doctors is one of several other means being explored by the Mahama-Led administration to contain the crisis inflicted upon the West African nation as a result a nationwide strike by public sector doctors
The doctors have vowed to resign if their conditions are not addressed.
