Today Alex Segbefia, the
Minister of Health has revealed that 177 Cuban doctors are getting ready to fly
to Ghana. They are in to support the health care delivery as our Ghanaian
doctors’ are on strike.
He revealed this when
he addressed the media about government’s efforts to resolve the strike issue
by the (GMA) Ghana Medical Association.
According to Mr
Segbefia, the decision forms part of measures by the government “to protect
life and restore normalcy” within the health sector which has been affected by
the strike.
Members of the Ghana
Medical Association (GMA) are on a strike over codified terms of conditions of
service.
Many people are
believed to have died as a result of the strike, but the Ghana Medical
Association has disputed media reports that the death toll has reached about
500..
Earlier, the Ministry
released a list of hospitals that are still operating despite the strike.
Moreover, retired
doctors and those on leave have being asked to return to work in some of the quasi-government
health facilities.
